4. Turbo Installations to Diesel engines with mechanical and electronic fuel systems

Our aftermarket diesel turbo conversions generally create power and torque increases of 40%-50% above standard at the driving wheels. This amount creates a pulling increase, which allows 2 gears taller to be used, which means if the standard vehicle needs 3rd gear to tow over a certain hill, the turbo vehicle can easily use 5th gear and maintain better speeds towing over the same hill.

Garrett water cooled and internally wastegated turbos are used and have given excellent durability and reliability in many hundreds of conversion since 1975 with many exceeding 400,000km without needing repairs.

With the ideal size turbo used boost begins at 1000RPM or less and reaches Wastegate control maximum boost as low as 1800RPM which on a diesel engines gives a very wide spread of torque with very effective take off power when towing.

To give the best engine life and reliability our conversions include a coolant loss alarm, an overboost safety valve, an oil cooler in the turbo supply line and a major engine tune up with Dyno measurements before and after.

For engines with electronically controlled mechanical fuel injection pumps an electronic interceptor is required to give best tune and power.

In the beginning of aftermarket turbocharging of diesel vehicles in Australia the market was sceptical with the product always having to prove itself. Now 36 years and thousands of vehicles converted later, the older technology engine with simple turbocharging is superior in reliability, cost and durability to the modern complex factory products.

Following is a series of before and after dyno graphs of the more common diesel conversions as applied to vehicles by MVT. Our dyno runs are usually in top gear with the ramp rate closely matching on road acceleration to best show what happens when you drive your vehicle.
