5. Power UP Conversions to Factory Turbo Diesel Engines with Electronic Fuel Injection Management
Most of these vehicles come with either Direct Injection or Common Rail fuel systems. The Direct injection engines give a greater percentage power increase (up to 40%) than the Common Rail ones with equal modifications. Some recent small displacement engines have high power output (eg: 2.5L Navara) with high boost which gives a smaller margin of potential power increase compared to earlier engines (eg: ZD30T Patrol and Navara) which power up effectively.
The general changes for power ups on these engines include exhaust system improvement, electronic interceptor, fuel system maintenance, boost control and intercooler improvements where required, carbon cleaning and Dyno tuning. Some vehicles with known design faults need modification before power up work to maintain reliability with increased power.
Once powered up the driving performance, pulling power and throttle response are dramatically improved especially on the below normal power vehicles.
Below is a group of before and after Dyno sheets of power up conversions on factory turbo diesel engine vehicles with electronic fuel control by MVT.
